The Importance of Ongoing Audiometric Ambient Noise Compliance
Ambient noise can be an obnoxiously persistent problem when conducting audiometric testing in test booths as well as “quiet room” settings. Even the smallest amounts of ambient noise can disrupt and skew the results of an audiogram test.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) set forth a series of ambient noise level requirements that are meant to preserve the accuracy and integrity of audiometric tests. While these requirements provide a solid foundation for precise audiometric testing, they do not give any guidelines as to how frequently to test ambient noise levels, nor how to go about performing the tests.
